The entire community is invited to participate in Benicia’s Third Annual Arbor Day Celebration, “Our Community, Our Trees,”  to be held in City Park on October 15, 2011, from 10am to 2pm. The Benicia Tree Foundation will serve as the lead host for this year’s event and is partnering with the City of Benicia and multiple community organizations and local businesses. The Benicia Tree Foundation is working closely with the City of Benicia, sponsor of the event for the first two years, and has enjoyed the enthusiastic support of staff and council members. We are particularly grateful for the efforts of Mario Giuliani, who has led the City of Benicia’s efforts to develop this event into an important annual tradition that is linked with our status as a Tree City USA.

This year’s theme was selected to reflect that idea that trees provide rich and rewarding opportunities to build and revitalize our community through tree planting, maintenance, and education, and collaborations that promote a greener environment by addressing concerns in Benicia’s Climate Action Plan.

In addition to a variety of tree related activities, the event will feature the Native Plant Society / Willis L. Jepson Chapter annual plant sale, which was a great success last year’s event. We also also bringing back A La Cart, the local mobile food vendor that sold out their delicious organically grown food to eager crowds last year.

With a focus on youth, we will continue the tradition of an annual Science Challenge, and added an Art Contest as well. We are encouraged by the recent interest and involvement of Benicia Scouts (Boys & Girls) in tree projects, and hope to highlight their efforts on behalf of trees in a significant way.
